Restoring St. Patrick’s Church Founded with Faith, Hope and Integrity, to be Rejuvenated with Love, Spirit and Prayer Fundraising for St. Patrick’s Church (Old Stone Church 1904) RESTORATION COMMITTEE August, 2010 |
Dear Friends,
WE INVITE YOU TO SHARE IN
THE VERY HAPPY AND JOYOUS OCCASION
OF THE RE-OPENING OF
ST. PATRICK’S STONE CHURCH
Most Reverend Nicholas De Angelis, Bishop of Peterborough will be Blessing the Church to mark the re-opening of St. Patrick’s Church
on Saturday, August 21st, 2010 at 10:00 a.m..
There will be a reception in the Parish Hall following the Blessing and we cordially invite you, your family and friends to come and celebrate with us.
To update you, when we last communicated to you through our newsletter, we had received an engineering study performed by a firm in Ottawa to obtain an estimate of the costs for a full restoration of the Church.
On September 8, 2009, we were blessed with a new Parish Priest, Father John Albao, who came from Sacred Heart Parish in Peterborough. Since September, 2009 we have been able to raise approximately $52,000. In the fall of 2009, we became aware that the roof on St. Patrick’s Church was in dire need of replacement in order to protect it through the winter. Our request to the Diocese of Peterborough to proceed with the shingling was granted by Bishop De Angelis and the work was completed on November 25, 2009. Without your generous donation this would not have been possible.
We have subsequently had a second and third engineering study done on St. Patrick’s Church to obtain the costs for work to ensure safe occupancy and for the completion of necessary repairs. The costs are estimated at $150,000, which is significantly lower than the original full restoration cost estimates for the project. This is truly a miracle; these revised estimates were forwarded to the Diocese for review.
Bishop De Angelis visited our Parish on July 17, 2010 bringing with him news that the Diocesan Engineer would be meeting with our committee at St. Patrick’s on July 19, 2010 to inspect St. Patrick’s Church and provide recommendation on the project.
Following the inspection, the Diocesan Engineer gave his approval for us to commence the work for structural soundness and safe occupancy with an immediate start date. Peever Masonry was hired to complete this phase of our restoration and a building permit has been issued by the Town of Kearney. Work has commenced (July 26th) to restore the basement of our Church and to complete other necessary repairs.
We would like also to keep you up-to-date with our ongoing plans as we still have much work ahead. The exterior walls still need repointing and we continue to fundraise to meet our goal of $150,000.
We ask for your assistance in honouring your previous monetary pledges or share with us what you can to restore and preserve our beautiful heritage Church so that generations to come will be able to worship in the home of our ancestors.
In closing, we would like to thank you for your continued generosity and look forward to seeing you at the Re-Opening of St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday, August 21, 2010.
If you require further information, please contact Father John Albao.
Yours in Christ

Dear Friends/Donors,
Further to our Newsletter of September 2009, we would like to update you on our Restoration Project progress to date. The roof on St. Patrick’s Church was in need of replacement this Fall in order to protect it through the winter. Our request to the Diocese of Peterborough to proceed with the roof replacement was granted by Bishop De Angelis. With your support and donation we were able to complete the work on November 25th.
Without your donation this would not have been possible and we would like to thank you very much in helping us complete Phase I of the Restoration Project.
We continue our fundraising efforts to raise the remaining funds required to complete the restoration, as mentioned in our September 2009 Newsletter.
Thank You

Dear Friends,
It is with great pleasure that I am writing to share some truly, wonderful news for Kearney. Our many hours of prayers have been answered, as we have received the approval and full support and Blessing of Bishop De Angelis to restore St. Patrick’s.
We have also been blessed with a new Parish Priest. Father John Albao comes to us from Sacred Heart Parish in Peterborough and brings with him a wealth of experience in fundraising. Father John became our new Pastor on September 8, 2009 and resides at St. Patrick’s Rectory in Kearney.
As many of you are aware, our beautiful stone church requires significant restoration. We have a creative and eager Restoration Committee and as set out in the attached letter from the Most Reverend Nicholas De Angelis, Bishop of Peterborough, have received permission to go forward in our mission to raise the funds for this endeavour.
We have hard work ahead as we strive to raise the funds necessary to complete a full restoration of St. Patrick’s, but with Father John as our guide, our commitment is strong … and we can do this!
Our ancestors have endowed us with a truly magnificent heritage building in which to worship God. Please join us as we strive to ensure that our parish and our church continue to be preserved for our children and generations thereafter.
We have been given a timeframe of one year in which to raise a significant portion of the total cost and at this time we are asking for your generous donation to our fundraising efforts. Donations should be made payable to “St. Patrick’s Church Restoration Fund, Kearney” at the following address – St. Patrick’s Restoration Committee, St. Patrick’s Church, P.O. Box 68, Kearney, Ontario, P0A 1M0. As well, any expertise that you can contribute would be welcomed. If we all donate and as a community become fundraisers, we will reach our goal together, strong in faith and steadfast in our commitment. If you have any questions please contact Father John.
Yours in Christ
